Ink Wash | Jennessa Bates

Ink Wash Portraits

One thing that I learned from this project is that I do not like working with newsprint. It was very hard to accept that there would be mistakes. The ink would flow into different areas that I did not want it to cover. Although, it was a mistake to be controlling with the ink, instead of letting the medium interact with the paper and accepting the interesting shapes it creates. My working space affected my results. Working on the ground was harder than standing, because it was hard to step away from my work and study the proportions of my subject. Overall, I think taking photos of people was exciting, because I usually like to make my own references for my artwork (not all reference photos were taken by me due to COVID- 19).

My face archive was people who I interacted with.

You've done excellent tonal modelling in each of your portraits, and they are visually unified as they are all facing straight forward. Awesome job!
